Addie & Sean’s wedding will always be one I’ll remember. And not necessarily for the obvious or surface-level reasons.
Wedding days are not about me. I always try to keep this at the forefront of my perspective when I’m shooting. Wedding days are about your love, your families and friends, and celebrating your story. I am there to document the beginning of your marriage and this new chapter in your life.
But sometimes, your stories become a part of my story.
A&S’s wedding was a culmination of a lot of things. A summer wedding in 2020, we were all learning to navigate life, businesses, weddings during a pandemic. A&S had to pivot from a big, classic downtown Cleveland wedding to an intimate, more-stripped-down backyard wedding at her parents’ mountain home in Utah. This wedding showed how beautiful things could still come from hard decisions. Past, present, and (unknowingly) future wedding clients (like, just some of my favorite people) were at this wedding. I tasked a guest with helping me with some off-camera lighting and she later become one of my brides — peep those reception photos, thanks Erin 😉 For me, it was a moment to reflect on how far I’ve come in this little business of mine and in spite of the uncertainty, it will still continue to thrive throughout the craziness of the next two years. And I was just so honored and floored that this wonderful couple wanted to fly me across the country to document this day for them.
It was a beautiful day, with beautiful scenery, a touching and intimate ceremony, and one of the best and most fun receptions I’ve ever documented.
I think deep down, unconsciously, I knew I was at a pivotal moment. The next day, I packed up, drove back to Salt Lake City, got on a plane, and flew home on the best high. My partner Jared picked me up from the airport, drove me home, and then gifted me with a ring and a proposal.
