Morgan & Keith

March 3, 2019
Morgan & Keith celebrated their love on February 17th, 2018.
This was my first wedding of the year and it wonderfully set the tone for the rest of the year. My goal last year in weddings was to get closer, to capture rawer, messy moments, to document the day just as it unfolded. I wanted to help my couples stay focused on the purpose of the day, to stay grounded and present and not let their minds wander off to the details of the day, because I promise you — promise — that stuff isn’t going to matter 30 years from now. My job isn’t just to take photos, but to guide you through the day in a way that gives you time to enjoy the day (cause it goes so fast) so I can then document those joyful moments.
It’s been well over a year since M&K were married, but I write these thoughts out because looking back at their photos gave me a chance to reset myself after a busy, busy year. Here is what you can learn from M&K and how their wedding day went. They got ready with their closest family and friends and clinked their glasses to the big moments of the day to come. It was cold, overcast, and it snowed, but they rolled with it and got some beautiful, fun, unique shots in the snow. They took a moment to get vulnerable and really sit with their emotions of the day. They did things their way. They had a first look on a rooftop patio. They didn’t do a “grand entrance” at the reception. They also didn’t have multiple long toasts and opted for one heartfelt toast from Morgan’s dad. They danced their asses off and got the best greasy pizza in town at the end of the night.
My point, you don’t have to do your wedding day a certain way or follow rules or steps or traditions. Do it your way. Freeing yourself from the “rules” will take so much weight off your shoulders. Make it unique to you and your partner and it will be filled to the brim with joyful moments. I have been watching too much Marie Kondo 🙂
Enjoy.
